Does the formula for a successful relationship change with or without social media?

I think the answer is no.

If you agree, then we know where this is going!

We are developing relationships to levels that we have never seen before. Why?

We never had this 40 year old web infrastructure that never sleeps. Once you get to this type of relationship everyone wants to participate to fulfill their personal needs and the community needs. Think about your last major purchase. Why did you buy?

Necessity?

Need?

Want?

How were you influenced to feel good about the purchase?

Check with friends or family?

Somewhere in the process you accepted that the price was worth the value and bought into the product or community. That is a form of commitment. Since you have now made an investment in the community you may want to participate. Why? You have time and money invested and now you have an opportunity to add your mark/flavor. This last point is why social media has just begun.

What is happening in the corporate world?

What is the morale of a typical employee?

Do they feel appreciated?
Does the company show their appreciation?

How’s the relationship today between employers and employees?

Using social media channels corporations can begin to repair the damage going on with the gap between executives and entry level workers. The closer we can bring CEO’s to employers the better the products/services will become for our customers/community.

What is your Purple Cow?

First thing, go out and buy Seth Godin’s books Purple Cow and The Prize Inside. It will be one of the best investments you can make in sales and should help you change your life and mindset. I know what you are thinking…No Seth is not paying me to say this. The pleasure is mine.

The days of print advertising and everyone buys because they see it on TV are over. With the internet reaching 40 and social media allowing viral impacts on a click of the button business has changed. Why does this matter to a Sales Professional?

You must differentiate yourself from all the noise. You must dare to be different or you will be left behind. The only way one will catch attention is to be remarkable or have a remarkable product and/or service that stand’s out from the pack or take something that people are doing today and make it remarkable. I’m working with Venmark and http://ping.fm/epFUr to revolutionize the visual display business. We actually pay the locations to advertise on their screens. Can you imagine making money on your TVs in your store? Why not? That is happening today.

I’m working with Eva who runs a non-profit newspaper called http://ping.fm/n0dV3 Brilliant! How many of us know someone that will NOT watch news because it’s so depressing. Eva created a paper that focuses on the positive. This is what we want. Now we must help her by supporting this paper and advertise in such a great uplifting concept. Anything you can do to help would be appreciated.

Status Quo is not an option or your business will be dead.

Look at all the head hunters running around realizing that their 15-30 points days are over. This little application called LinkedIn that has all connections and references all in one place has taken over. Then there is the headhunter who saw the purple cow and created his own business right on LinkedIn called HigherBracket. Brilliant!

Does your company have a Facebook fan page? Today I checked the count of people on Facebook….400 Million Users and counting. That means larger population that the USA and climbing…..The world has changed like it or not. Real estate agents making their 2.5 percent because….? We have a think called Kijiji that people are flocking too and not to mention the entire business model is under review. The top agents will figure out their purple cow.

Why?

These jobs do not provide the value that the people doing them request. If you are a real estate agent change the playing field. Dare to be different. Steve Hamre with Remax Hamre out of Ottawa is sending out house announcements via Facebook. Brilliant! Why not? If we have learned that big ticket items are made by confiding in family or friends this is a perfect place to share real estate announcements.

My profession in technology sales is cleaning house of all the overhead and reducing salaries because they can. Every day I get calls from my network looking for work. We must create are next job in 2010. We have the entire world all connected looking to be blown away with a truly remarkable person, product or service. The time is now.

What are you going to do today that will solidify your position within your corporation?

So what can you do today to leverage these great times?

Anything you want!

So get focused and start building your own brand and take your own life into your hands! Rewrite the rules and be truly remarkable!

Thank you Seth Godin for reminding us what it’s all about.

Making a difference one day at time!

Today I want to discuss our education system. Found a great article written by Barbara Pytel back in 2006. Let’s start making changes to truly make our planet a better place for our friends and families.

Best Time of Day to Learn
Worst and Best Times of the Day
Aug 5, 2006 Barbara Pytel

Dunn and Dunn research has found the best time of day for learning. The results are surprising. Prime time for learning in our population is not 8:30-3:30 p.m.

Dunn and Dunn has learned that optimal times for learning fall into four categories.
• 30% of the population learned best in the morning hours. These people are the ones that wake up and are ready to absorb new information.
• 30% of the population learns best in the afternoon. They come to life after lunch.
• 30% of the population learns best in the evening. We refer to them as "night owls."
• 10% show no preference. They seem to learn whenever it is necessary to learn.

So, in the morning there is a possibility of 40% of the students at their peak. In the afternoon, 40%. That leaves a possibility of 40% of students learning best when school is no longer in session. So, the long standing opinion that reading and math must be taught in the morning may not be valid.

Student Energy vs. Teacher Energy
Dunn and Dunn also learned that student energy is highest right after lunch. Good to know. However, teacher energy is lowest after lunch. This combination results in active students with tired teachers. Statistics show that discipline problems are the greatest immediately after lunch.
As students learn which time is best for them, they can utilize that time for optimal gain. Students that know they are night owls, may do the bulk of homework at that time. Afternoon students should probably study when they get home from school. Morning students are the ones that can get up an hour early and review information one more time before a test.

If the future is our children would it make sense to assess each child and create a program for each child’s ability to learn?

So why do we keep this ancient educational program going with the same times that worked for farmers to have their children work in the fields after school? Last I checked none of are kids are working in the fields? Let’s start making changes that make our planet a better place to live.
